Explore Mount Everest in 10 days, the quickest! Everest is the tallest mountain in the world and millions of people dream of at least seeing the base camp of the mountain in front of their own eyes. This Short Everest base camp trek is perfect for those who want to see and explore the Himalayas of Nepal. Nepal is a mountainous country and has several lofty peaks over 8000m and Mt. Everest is one of these elevated peaks. The untamed apex of the world is located in Sagarmatha national park northeast of Nepal. The Everest base camp trek is one of the most popular trekking trails in Nepal. With our short Everest base camp trek, you will pass through the rural villages of the Khumbu region of Nepal. The short trek can be completed in 10 days starting from Kathmandu and ending at the same point. The highest point of the short Everest base camp is Kalapatthar which lies at an elevation of 5,545 meters above sea level. Because of such a high altitude, there is a high chance of getting altitude sickness. This moderate level of the trek can be done by all age groups, but regular exercise a few weeks before the trek is necessary to complete the trek successfully. During the Everest base camp trek, you can also experience the warm hospitality of the local sherpas. Sherpas are not just the line of a clothing brand but the living legends of the Himalayan region of Nepal. It is located in the Sagarmatha National Park of the Khumbu region and because of being inside the Sagarmatha national park of Nepal, you will need a Sagarmatha National Park permit to reach the Everest base camp. Similarly, you will also need a Khumbu Pasang Lahamu rural permit. The trek starts from Lukla and ends at the same point. The total distance that you will cover during the short Everest base camp trek is about 130 kilometers. Meanwhile, you will have to walk 6/7 hours per day to complete the trek on time.

It is one of the best trekking routes in Nepal starts after a flight to Lukla. You will take an early morning flight to Lukla from Tribhuvan airport. During the 35-40 minutes flight to Lukla, you can have amazing views of the high mountain ranges, valleys, and rural villages. About Short Everest Base Camp Trek

Upon reaching Lukla airport you will meet the rest of your team and start moving. The first day of the trek is a 6 hours walk. Where you will stay overnight at Monjo village. You can also change the itinerary and choose to stay overnight at Phakding before the trek starts. The second day of the trek will take you to the Sherpa capital, Namche Bazaar. You can meet and interact with the hikers moving towards or coming from the trekking trails of the Everest region.

Similarly, walking through the rural villages you will pass through Tengboche, Pangboche, Lobuche, and many other sherpa villages to finally reach Gorak Shep. Upon reaching Gorak Shep you will check in at the hotel and leave your backpack at the hotel to explore the Everest Base Camp. The base camp of Mount Everest lies at an elevation of 5,364 meters above sea level. The hiking distance from Gorak Shep to the base camp is about 3.5 kilometers. After spending a few times at the Everest base camp you will return to Gorak Shep for the overnight stay.

The next day wake up early to witness the marvelous sunrise views over the high mountain ranges from Kala Patthar. Kalapatthar is the highest point of the short Everest base camp trek. You will again leave your backpack at the hotel and move towards the Kala Patthar early in the morning. The distance from Gorak Shep to Kalapatthar is 1.2 kilometers only, but you will have to walk steeply uphill to reach this point. You will return to the same route and follow the same path to reach Lukla. You will take an early morning flight to reach Kathmandu.

How difficult is the Everest Base camp trek?

The most beautiful view comes from the hardest climb. You will have to bear some pain to get the marvelous views of some of the highest peaks in the world. There are various trekking trails in Nepal as well as inside the Everest region. But among all, the short Everest base camp trek is one of the moderate difficulty levels of the trek.

Any age group of hikers can complete the short Everest base camp trek. But the hikers must be physically fit and must have some hiking experience before the trek. Besides that, regular exercise a few weeks before the trek is a must. Due to the high altitude, there is a high chance of getting altitude sickness. Best Time to Visit

This trek can be done best during the spring and autumn season in Nepal. March, April, and May are seen as the spring season in Nepal. Similarly, September, October, and November are regarded as the autumn season in Nepal. Both of these seasons are an excellent time to explore the Everest base camp. Marvelous views of the mountain ranges can be seen during these months of the year. 

Both of these seasons are regarded as the best time for short Everest base camp treks and get a lot of hikers during these months of the year. Above all, you can also witness the blooming rhododendron flowers all over the forest in the lower parts of the trekking trails. Detailed Itinerary

Day 01

Flight to Lukla, Trek to Monjo

At 07:00 AM: Wake up early in the morning and drive to the domestic airport and then fly to Lukla (2815m) from Kathmandu. On this day, you will trek for about 4 hours to Phakding. The trail takes you through the Dudh Koshi River and the pine forest. The amazing landscape with some beautiful peaks starts to show up. Overnight at a tea house in Monjo.

Note: During the peak Everest trekking season, the flights to Lukla operate from Ramechhap, Manthali too, if you are traveling in spring (April) and autumn (October/November) you are required to drive to Manthali from Kathmandu. You will drive early in the morning at around 1 AM the distance between Kathmandu and Ramechap is around 132 km and you cover it in around 5-6 hours.

Day 02

Trek to Namche Bazaar

At 08:00 AM: Today is one of the most exciting days of the trek as you will get to witness the Sherpa capital Namche Bazaar. You will also cross the new Hillary bridge over the Dudh Koshi river which was built in 2013. you will take an uphill walk until you reach Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazzar is one of the most developed areas in the Everest region here you can find pubs, cafes, gaming bars, and fine restaurants. You can go around there and take advantage of the facilities. Overnight at a comfortable local lodge in Namche Bazaar.

Day 03

Trek to Millango

 

At 08:00 AM: Wake up early and have your breakfast. After packing all your goods you will start your trek. The total distance of the hike for today is 13 kilometers only. During the day you will have to take an uphill walk as well as have to descend downhill a few times. Besides that, you will pass through Phunki Thanga, Tengboche, and Deboche villages to finally reach Millango situated at an elevation of 3,746 meters above sea level.

Day 04

Trek to Dingboche

At 08:00 AM: Wake up early if you want to see the marvelous sunrise view. After breakfast, you will start the trek. The trail today is an easy uphill walk. Meanwhile, during the day you will cover 8.5 kilometers to reach the Dingboche village from Millingo. Dingboche lies at an elevation of 4,410 meters above sea level where you will stipend a night.

Day 05

Trek to Lobuche

At 08:00 AM: Dingboche is also one of the popular villages on the way to the Everest base camp. Wake up early if you want to witness the mesmerizing views of the sunrise over the high mountains. After breakfast, you will start walking towards Lobuche, today's stop. The trail today is also an uphill walk throughout the day. The distance from Dingboche to Lobuche is about 8 kilometers only which can be covered in 5-6 hours at a slow pace.

Day 06

Trek to Gorak Shep, Hike to Everest Base Camp

At 08:00 AM: Today is the most important day of your trek as you will be at the base camp of Everest. The walk towards Everest is along the Khumbu glacier. You will reach the small village of Gorakshep, where you can leave your baggage as you will return to the same place for an overnight stay. Have your lunch and rest for a while before you make your way to the Everest base camp at an altitude of 5,364 meters. Everest base camp gives you an unforgettable view of Khutse, Mt. Pumori, Changtse, and Khumbu icefall instead of Mt. Everest. The 360-degree view will intimate you and take your breath away. After witnessing the base of the majestic Mt. Everest make your way back to the lodge.

Day 07

Hike to Kala Patthar, Trek to Pheriche

At 08:00 AM: Early morning you will climb to Kala Patthar for a sunrise view. From the top, you will see a 360-degree view of some of the highest peaks in the world including Mt. Pumori (7,169m), Mt. Everest (8,848m), and Lhotse (8516m), the Tibetan peak Changtse, Nuptse (7861m), Amadablam and countless other smaller peaks. You will have our breakfast coming back and after breakfast, you will descend towards Lobuche following the glacial valley and return to Pangboche. Overnight at Pheriche.

Day 08

Trek to Namche Bazaar

At 08:00 AM: After breakfast, you will further move downwards towards the Namche bazaar via Tengboche. The trail today is an easy downhill walk. But you will also have to climb small hills before reaching Namche bazaar. You can celebrate your successful trek to base camp by treating yourself to a delicious meal and a few drinks at the lively game bars. Overnight stay at a comfortable lodge.

Day 09

Trek to Lukla

At 08:00 AM: After descending for a few minutes you will meet Dudh Koshi River. Walking beside the Dudh Koshi River you will reach Chhuthawa. After crossing Thado Koshi Khola you will reach Thado Koshi village. The trail to Lukla is filled with various teahouses. You will reach Lukla in less than 2 hours from Cheplung.

Day 10

Fly back to Kathmandu

At 08:00 AM: After breakfast, you will move towards the Tenzing Hillary Airport, also known as the Lukla Airport. You will take a flight back to Kathmandu. During the flight, you can have a last view of Everest. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, if you have a flight on the same day you can directly go to the International airport terminals, and if you don’t have you can check in at your hotel. In the evening, join us for a traditional Nepali Dinner (Thakali Cuisine) with a live performance of folk songs as a farewell.
